The great Stoic philosopher Seneca said:

“If a man knows not which port he sails, no wind is favourable.”

The point is that you could have the finest productivity vessel in the world, but it’s not going to be much use if you don’t have a destination to direct it towards. Without a specific end goal, our vessel will just drift aimlessly, no matter how capable or well-equipped it may be.

This analogy beautifully illustrates the vital importance of setting a clear, well-defined goal.

Which is why in week 1 of this challenge we’re talking about goal setting: identifying and prioritising the things that matter most in your life.

Throughout this challenge, your goals will act as your North Star, providing direction and guiding the decisions you make along the way.

We’re not just listing down any goals here though. We’re uncovering the goals that resonate most with our values and aspirations.

They’re the goals that, when achieved, bring a profound sense of fulfilment and purpose. And they’re the lighthouses guiding our productivity vessel through the fog of daily distractions and the ever-changing tides of life.

But, setting effective goals requires deep reflection. It’s about asking yourself questions like:

  1. What do I want to be remembered for?
  2. What kind of impact do I want to make?
  3. What makes me feel alive?

So, by the end of this week, you’ll have the answers to those questions, and a plan to start making them a reality 🏆

But, goal-setting can be deceptively difficult.

And there are a few common traps people fall into. Here are a few of them:

  1. 🪤 The Overload Trap: Setting too many goals is like trying to drink water from a fire hose—overwhelming and counterproductive. When it comes to goal-setting, less is more.
  2. 🪤 The External Approval Trap: Goals based on external expectations rarely stick. True goals come from an inner calling, not outside validation.
  3. 🪤 The Vague Goal Trap: A goal without a plan is just a wish. Breaking down your goal into manageable steps transforms it from a dream into an achievable target.
